Healthy Hair Hacks for Travelers!
Traveling is what moves me! It’s my greatest passion in life and I don’t want to stop any time soon. So when I’m on the go, my hair shouldn’t be an obstacle when it comes to my adventures abroad. I’ve put together a few tips that help me keep my hair healthy, full of bounce and beautiful during all my travels.
1. Bring Your Products WITH YOU
I can’t necessarily rely on the in-room amenities that hotels offer. Nine times out of ten, the room’s bathroom products leave my hair dry and screaming for moisture. Within an hour, I leave the shower looking like I have hay for hair. Who wants to looks like Nick Nolte’s mugshot on vacation?! Yikes. The solution is simple – bring your products with you! Head over to Target or your local convenience store, grab 3 ounce travel size bottles and fill them up with your hair arsenal.
2. Use the Right Products
My absolute favorite power duo right now is Hair Food’s Coconut Milk & Chai Spice shampoo and conditioner from their Nourishing Collection. You read that right, chai spice. The pair work together to turn the mop on my head into a heavenly tress of locks. The natural ingredients complement the healthy, active lifestyle that I strive for. They are free of sulfate, parabens and dyes – making them easy but powerful on my hair, leaving it smooth and shiny, as well as protecting it from future damage. The nourishing formula is beyond ideal for my travel days when I don’t have time to spend in a salon or doing an in-home treatment!
3. Always Rinse After Being in Water
Of course, this seems like common sense! But sometimes, I tend to give into being lazy after going for a swim or doing some sort of water activity in the sun. I resort to a “power nap” that occasionally turns into a 3-4 hour slumber! By the time I wake up, it’s time for the next activity and I don’t really have time to wash my hair and style it. But as I’ve learned, it’s very important to rinse period. The longer saltwater or chlorine stays in your hair, the more potential for damage. So rinse, rinse, rinse! 🚿Tie up your hair in a wet messy bun and keep the adventure going.
4. Bring Your Own Pillowcase!
As silly as this sounds, bringing your own pillowcase can be really effective in terms of keeping your hair clean and soft during your travels. I’m not saying that all hotels don’t offer clean linen, but if it’s your own, you can guarantee it! And if it’s silk, that’s even better! ✨Silk pillowcases cause less hair breakage, which means less split ends. Not only do these pillowcases help out your mane, but they also are great for a clean face with little to no breakouts!
5. Fewer Chemicals & Heat
My best hack to healthy hair during travel is ultimately doing less to it! When traveling, I always challenge myself to leave all my hair tools at home. I pack only the essentials: a few scrunchies, a brush and Hair Food’s Coconut Milk & Chai Spice shampoo and conditioner. Exposing my hair to less heat and chemicals allows my mane to be at its best during my travels! 👩🏽🦱💕
That about sums it up! Make sure to check Hair Food’s Nourishing Collection. The entire collection features recipes with amazing, powerful ingredients like apricot, lavender water, argan oil, and avocado, just to name a few! I’ve linked a few below. You’ll be sure to find a product that meshes with your type of hair and travel. 🙂
